sometimes the best advertising is free, and of good character

So, yesterday I was eating lunch at an unnamed restaurant and I look out the window. I see a man pushing an SUV into a very busy intersection. I have to admit, my first thought was “crazy guy…can’t read a gas gauge” (it was a newer SUV, so not likely to have a non-working gas guage). He was pushing the SUV by himself with a lady driving. They made it through the intersection and into the parking lot of the restaurant were I was eating unscathed. Then, the man started walking back to the intersection. That was when I noticed a large dump truck that had not moved during the whole process. This guy was the dump truck driver. So instead of honking or giving the lady the finger, he got out of his truck in the heat (mind you it was around 100 degrees) and helped out the lady.

So nice to see we still have a few people in this world that care…you never hear about it on the news, that’s for sure. And if I ever need a dump truck, I’d use him. To bad there wasn’t a logo on the side of the truck, seems like they need some advertising help.

Well lookie there, I pull in some advertising slant to the story.

Video Blogging…NMY Style

Vlogging or Video blogs can be a helpful tool in using social media. I’ve decided to do a quazi weekly video blog so we can show our clients exactly what we are talking about. The next one should be great so check out the first one and give your feedback. Social media is about information and top of mind awareness. Don’t let you company go another day without a social media presence.

In this blog we address the BP Public Relations plan. We also tip our hats to a few Asian Americans, since May was Asian American month. We hope you enjoy…

Isn’t it nice to see community involvement? One of our very own, Jarod, made the sacriface to get up at the crack of dawn to be interviewed on Good Morning ArkLaMiss ( KNOE 8 ) on Monday to talk about The Downtown Cinema. Jarod is just one of many that is involved in The Downtown Cinema, a free movie night in downtown Monroe the last Saturday of every month. Check them out at http://www.thedowntowncinema.com/

On this, the day of my beginning

For now, I’m just a kneecap on the body of this awesome company; nevertheless, I’m proud to be a part of it. I’ve seen several of you at the Student ADDY competitions, but never imagined I would one day have the pleasure of working with you.

On this, the day of my beginning, you’ve made me feel very welcome.

On this, the day of my beginning, I feel like a real grown up and not just a recent college graduate.

I look forward to spending many days with you just like on this, the day of my beginning at NMY =D

“Every end is a new beginning.”

There will soon be a new intern in town. I will be graduating in 5 days, so my internship is coming to an end! It’s definitely a bittersweet time. I am obviously excited to be graduating, excited to be moving back home (to Missouri) to see my parents, family and friends, but I’m also sad to be leaving NMY, sad to be leaving my friends in Louisiana, and sad just leaving Louisiana in general.

Louisiana will always have a special place in my heart, as will NMY… but it’s a small world, so maybe I will run into all the wonderful people I’ve met later on down the road!

Student Addy’s…the Intern’s perspective.

As Jarod mentioned a few posts back, it’s student Addy time! We’ll find out how well we did this afternoon at the awards banquet; I know that there is a lot of talent in our marketing department, so I’m anxious to see how everyone did!

I decided that I would share with you one of the ads that I submitted and tell you how it came about. First, let me just say, that I have no graphic design skills. Or, really, any artistic skills. I’m good at coloring… and that’s about it. So I’m not too proud to admit that the ads I came up with this semester really happened by accident.

Here’s the story… this semester I had to do a strategic management paper over IBM. One of the big things that I found that IBM is doing right now is campaigning their “Smarter Planet” initiative. Right around the time Addy’s were due, my strategic management paper and presentation was also due, so all of these interesting facts I’d been reading about all semester were fresh in my mind. So I started playing around with Adobe Illustrator. When I say playing, I mean clicking random stuff and seeing what happened. Then I thought, “Hey, that looks pretty cool! I think I’ll go for it!” I made three different ads, but this was my favorite. Maybe it will win something this afternoon… but if not, at least I got some experience with Adobe Illustrator!
